“My art piece showcases racism. By including a torn American flag, cotton crown, and a reference to lady liberty – I created parallelism concerning how in society racism is often hidden, or not spoken about in public settings, or how it is expressed “casually” with slightly prejudiced remarks in everyday conversation. My drawing showcases both the outright and subdued racism that is prevalent in our society that we are still fighting against since December 18, 1865.”
