“My art piece relates to Article 25 of Human Rights, the right to adequate living standards. It is based on the environment and addresses pollution, climate change, plastic pollution, and deforestation. My main focus is climate change which is the cause of a rise in temperatures and weather all affected by human activity and the burning of fossil fuels. In my piece, there is an earth depicted with hands over and under the earth; the hand on top and arm going through the earth represents major business and world leaders who have not addressed climate change and pollution.”
BIO: Alyssa Meyer is a Grade 12 student at Butler Tech School of Art (SOA).
PROJECT: After learning about human rights in Mrs. Valerie Folz’ Government classes at Butler Tech School of the Arts, 45 high school students chose a human rights issue they wanted to research. Then in Mrs. Mary Catherine Ruby’s Visual Art + Design classes they visually communicated their voice through their art using symbolic imagery to represent the human rights issue they had selected.
