“My piece Stereotypical Gears, represents how social media and stereotypes around different body shapes can negatively affect a person. I wanted to show how the girl sees herself by displaying a picture of her on her phone while her true appearance, which includes a feeding tube going up her nose, is shown in the reflection of the phone. Around one of her wrists is also a hospital bracelet and in the other, an IV. This shows how negative body image can affect someone’s health, not only mentally but also physically. I have dealt myself with issues with body image for years; I want to make a change using my own experiences to help others.”
