“‘Police State’ began as ‘Mandala’ from an etching plate I made many years ago, with a peaceful blue chine-collé paper. But inspired by the work of French symbolist artist Odilon Redon, and alarmed by the current increase in surveillance in our country, I added several eyes to the print.”
ARTIST BIO: Carole Winters is a printmaker, book artist, and graphic designer based in Northern Kentucky. She earned a B.A. in Printmaking from Morehead State University in Eastern Kentucky in 1973. She has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows while maintaining a parallel career as a graphic designer and art director. After working within various printing and publishing companies in a variety of roles, including publishing management, she is now a full time visual artist. She served on the volunteer board of directors for Tiger Lily Press, a fine arts print studio in Cincinnati, for seven years including one year as Director. Carole recently completed a term on the board of directors of Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center, which recently opened a new printmaking studio.
