“The paintings examine the tension embedded within my Mexican and American cultural identities. The identities are looked through the lens of masculinity, labor and inherited social structures. Each painting depicts two male figures engaged in an escalating physical fight. Here the hotdog and the taco operate as a cultural symbol of American and Mexican identity.”
ARTIST BIO: Emily Rosales is a student currently completing an MFA at the University of Cincinnati (DAAP). Her artwork is an ongoing exploration of self-discovery and cultural identity. As a Mexican American, she has always existed between two worlds, never fully belonging to one or the other. Rather than viewing this duality as a limitation, Emily uses her practice as a way to navigate and embrace the complexity of her identity.
