“Migrating Homes 11 & 13 are collaborative art pieces created by Jamey Ponte, Adlan Yousif, Savior Juma, and Tracy Akiniyi who all have migrated in one way or another to or through Africa. We see the ‘Home’ as gateways of our conventional world, the vessel of memories and experiences. Jamey migrated to Kenya per privilege, Adlan from Sudan per the ongoing Civil War, Savior a small migration of distance just within the Kibera Slums and Tracy per the loss of her family’s income during Covid. These 2 pieces are part of a Migrating Homes series currently being displayed in South Africa for the Atlas of Uncertainty exhibition, next traveling to Ghana & Kenya.”
ARTIST BIO: Jamey Ponte (Babu), a renowned ‘Artivist’, founder of House of Friends Kenya, Kibera Arts District (KAD), and the Nairobi Arts Biennale, has pioneered the use of art as a tool for systemic change, social justice, environment and wildlife. Jamey’s work focuses on empowering artists to become “groundbreakers and thinkers” and use their craft to address critical issues like human rights and sustainability. His deep-rooted commitment to community-based art is shared in this exhibit through the Migrating Homes Series collaboration with Adlan Yousif, Savior Juma, Tracy Akiniyi.
