“This was originally a shirt design made for the 2024 Fairfield Hispanic Heritage Festival and Expo. It is a reference to a popular Latin American game called Loteria and the card is “the Sun.” I replaced the traditional sun drawing with the Aztec version of the sun as a nod to the Latin American Indigenous roots.”
ARTIST BIO: Abriljoanna Huerta is a Mexican American artist and a graduate of the Art Academy of Cincinnati. She creates artwork that reflects her experience as a queer Latina living in the modern world. The primary genres Abriljoanna works with are horror and sci-fi and uses them as a tool to showcase the horrific potentials of what can happen. She works as a multidisciplinary artist and always is finding new ways to express her work.
