“We didn’t claim ourselves as exceptional – the endeavor was. “Experimental” because we did not know it would work until we tried. “A Republic – if you can keep it. Even as the country declared itself, adjustments were made, – Constitutional amendments – with an acknowledgement that these would be ongoing, to “create a more perfect Union”. Now is the litmus test: will our form of government, will we reveal ourselves to be what has been imagined?”
ARTIST BIO: The world is spinning, spinning, the centrifugal force threatening to knock anyone off center into the outer reaches of rage or despair. Staying centered for Anne Leader has meant engaging in art, exploration of the natural world, love of learning/reflecting. Paper, clay, words, collaboration. Now is the time for her to reach out, to find her way with others. Presently living in Kentucky, Carol Freid is re-formatting and re-engaging ideas and concepts about art, culture, visibility/invisibility, justice and change through book arts and minimal installations. Her practice continues to find ways to incorporate the exploration of ideas, objects and materials and their manifestation as revelations of a rapidly changing world.
