“De minimus in law debates the issue of value and when used in common parlance allows anyone to place anything into the category of valueless. This dismissal of a complex world ends up leaving us all impoverished. Tiny pieces of our world under a microscope represent the parts of existence that need to be re-magnified, recovered and restored. By teasing out aspects of many cultures, nature and life we see the threads of a rich and varied world, and as small as it is, it represents meaning and purpose.”
ARTIST BIO: Presently living in Kentucky, Carol Freid is re-formatting and re-engaging ideas and concepts about art, culture, visibility/invisibility, justice and change through book arts and minimal installations. Her practice continues to find ways to incorporate the exploration of ideas, objects and materials and their manifestation as revelations of a rapidly changing world.
The world is spinning, spinning, the centrifugal force threatening to knock anyone off center into the outer reaches of rage or despair. Staying centered for Anne Leader has meant engaging in art, exploration of the natural world, love of learning/reflecting. Paper, clay, words, collaboration. Now is the time for her to reach out, to find her way with others.
