“The aim of my collage is to encourage to be witness and inspire change about the war. The title: Someone wants my city, my country, the oil, the gold. is inspired by what happens in Venezuela, my country of origin. Wars are not about liberation; they are about control and power.”
ARTIST BIO: Sylvia Akamine Oramas is a Venezuelan-born artist based in Northern Kentucky. Growing up in Caracas with an abstract painter as a father, she developed a passion for art early on by assisting him in his studio. After moving to the U.S., Sylvia continued her artistic journey at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Through her art, she conveys powerful messages of Peace and possibility, inspired by her journey as a Latina artist, her commitment to advocating for women’s rights, and her dedication to peace-building.
