Youth acquire their basic core values early in age, usually between 7-11 years old. SOS ART has created a library of cartoon books, each consisting of 2 stories illustrated by 2 different artists, or group of artists, on a given theme of peace and justice, with the intent to:
1. Have students read them, be exposed to, and become familiar with the value of peace and justice they each address
2. Become familiar with different art styles and approaches used in the illustrations
3. Have teachers (art, creative writing, ethics, etc.) read (as age appropriate) the story with the students in the classroom and address and discuss its topic
4. Give assignments to students to create their own story on the same theme and illustrate part, or all of it, in their own style or in the style of one of the artists of the book
The objectives are:
1. For the student to become familiar with and understand the theme of the value addressed through the cartoon book
2. To learn how to address the theme of value in their own life (as age appropriate)
3. To reflect on, personalize, and follow up actively with the correlating value through a creative activity of their own (literary, artistic, etc.)
4. To incorporate it as their own core values
A lesson plan will be provided to accompany each book and can be used by the teacher if desired
complete the evaluation form after the use of each book.
