“This piece belongs to a series of birthday self-portraits. A trip to Spain was cancelled the week before and virus was running rampant in Italy. Months later at the time of this writing, Nov. 18, 2020, Covid- 19 cases are skyrocketing and yesterday’s death total of 33 Kentuckians set a new record for fatalities in the state due to the pandemic.”

ARTIST BIO: Kevin Muente makes self-portraits on his birthday, March 16th; it has become a ritual for the past 13 years, and his self-portraits can be quick or may take several hours depending on the day’s activities.
