ARTIST BIO: Jahmylah Taylor is a Grade 12 student at Princeton High School.
PROJECT: Under the direction of art teacher Matt Reed, students studied the work of Keith Haring, an artist known for using simple cartoons to communicate with the viewer. These students were asked to draw something with a positive message or to address a social issue with their art. They used white and red colored pencil on black paper, similar to the color scheme in some of Haring’s pieces. The project gave the students a better understanding of how art can be used as a vehicle for personal or political expression.
