“Book banning and censorship is a very real issue that impacts education every day. Books are banned constantly in schools because they express views on topics such as racism, LGBTQ+ matters, sexuality, and profanity that parents may not agree with. I feel that education should not be censored, as schools should generally be trusted when to expose students to certain issues in the media; schools and parents should work together. A firsthand experience of this took place at a school in Waterloo, Iowa. The book “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” was assigned for reading by the teacher and a parent complained it had references to sexuality and profanity. The school banned it and broke its own rules by banning it without a review committee.”
