“This piece is inspired by artist Judith Scott, a Cincinnati born creator stigmatized by disability. Introduced to fiber art in her 40’s, Judith manifested extraordinary textile expressions. This wrapped and woven structure represents the longing to hold space for each creative spirit, dismissed by ableist narratives and told they were incapable of making art.”
ARTIST BIO: Charlotte Reed BFA MSW ATR is a mixed media artist who delights in all things fiber. Her work as an art therapist and experience facing the stigma of blindness have fueled a passion for providing inclusive, accessible, and affirming creative opportunities through her non-profit Art Equals. Her fervent belief that everyone has the ability to be creative and that finding the right outlet is key, inspires her to continue exploring varied materials and techniques.
