ARTIST BIO: Mixed media artist Claire Marcus has been an exhibiting artist for nearly fifty years. Born and raised in New York City, she is a fifth-generation fiber artist. Claire holds a BA in architecture and an MFA in painting from the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied with MacArthur Fellow Rackstraw Downes, sculptor Robert Engman, and photographer Rudy Burckhardt. She has exhibited her award-winning work with Arts Community of Easton, Centre for Print Research, Cincinnati Book Arts Society, Delaware Valley Chapter – Guild of Bookworkers, Free Library of Philadelphia, Frontline Arts, Kalamazoo Book Arts Center, Lafayette College, Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Moravian University, Nurture Nature Center, Philadelphia Center for the Book, and San Francisco Center for the Book. Claire’s work is part of public and private collections here and abroad. A board member for Cincinnati Book Arts Society and Lehigh Valley Printmakers Society, she has been a teaching artist for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts since 1998.
