“This artwork means a lot to me. All my life I grew up around Mexican culture, speaking Spanish. As soon as I started elementary school it was perfect for a little kid; then I started middle school and people started asking about my ethnicity. I would say Mexican and they would not believe me; they would say I’m wrong and call me white. Most days I would go home crying. Then I started high school and really found myself and didn’t need validation.”
