mixed media; 14x13x8”
“This three-dimensional mixed media piece features a styrofoam head transformed into Earth, with visible cracks symbolizing the damage humans have caused to ourselves and our planet. A kitchen knife pierces the head, serving as the base for a delicate clay balance scale. Pink and blue yarn connect the plates of the scale, representing the two sides of gender and the tension between them. The Earth rests on a canvas painted like the galaxy, being drawn into a black hole, emphasizing both the vulnerability of our world and the overwhelming forces it faces. Using a variety of materials allowed for exploration of texture, color, and form, combining smooth, hard, and fibrous surfaces to create depth, contrast, and visual interest. This project gave the opportunity to experiment with styrofoam, clay, yarn, and subtractive techniques, creating a layered and dynamic piece that captures fragility, balance, and human impact.”
