watercolor, color pencil; 12×12”
“In the year 1974, my grandparents, my father, and his siblings immigrated to America from Italy with no more than a few $100 in their pockets. My grandparents moved downtown to help my aunt with a little shop right next to Findlay Market. They saved every penny to move their children into a nicer neighbor, and live in the same house to this very day. It didn’t matter if it was an old friend, or a neighbor who needed cheering up, they always had the door open for whoever wanted a good meal. They have both passed now, and I dedicated this piece for them as a piece of gratitude for everything they have done for me, for my family, and for everyone they have greeted with open arms.”
