conte crayons, watercolor paper; 18×24”
“My piece is a vibrant work that consists of a woman of ethnic background, who is angrily and frantically desperate, pleading with an ICE agent to halt him from further harming immigrants or people with cultural backgrounds. The subject matter represented in my artpiece, is meant to convey a message of the ongoing conflict of ICE agents detaining immigrated individuals or people that do not align with their standards of an American resident. The title of this piece is called, “Lines in the Sand”, and the elements most obvious in my art piece are balance, symmetry, and texture. The medium my art piece is made from, is conté crayons on watercolor paper. Tools and techniques I used in my piece were blending of colors to give a sense of there being a source of light and shade, texture of hair, and varying pressures of lines to give a sense of texture as well.
ARTIST BIO: Cheryl NGUYEN is a grade 12 student at Roger Bacon High School studying art under art teacher Cindy Foley.
