“This piece of art shows a fish in its bowl, while it is getting shot and the water spilling out, the title of this piece is When Home Breaks. Gun violence has been a huge societal issue recently and that is why I wanted to bring awareness to that in this art piece. I tried to show different emotions including fear and helplessness, the fish cannot do anything about this happening to him. Gun violence has been a way that people have been removed from their homes, just like what is happening to the fish. Some of my goals as an artist are to create pieces that draw the viewers attention and make them want to learn more about my pieces. At first it was hard for me to find a social issue to do because there are so many that mean so much to me. When I finally chose to do it on gun violence, I didn’t know exactly what to do, all I knew was I didn’t want to draw people because it would make me sad and I also just painted people in my last project. I think this will influence my other works because it will make me pay more attention to detail and help me overcome different challenges through thinking it out more.”
