prismacolor pencil on black construction paper; 10×10”
“Under the guidance of art teacher Katie Jacobs, students learned about the graffiti style artwork of Keith Haring, and created a drawing in a similar style using symbolic imagery to communicate a message based on a social issue.”
“First, I am transgender and I face hate everyday, especially from my own government. I don’t fit the mold. I fight for my right to exist everyday. This piece highlights the irony the USA is built on, so many Americans are quick to spread hate and judge others, when in reality we need to look deeper and inward to see the mistakes and lies we’re built on. The “Land of the free” was stolen. So many things are wrong with America, America has never been great. The trans community is demonized and slandered every single day, truly, America should look deeper. The call is coming from inside the house. The country is practically fueled by white supremacy and built on native land.“ ARTIST BIO: Spencer Dean CONNELY is a grade 12 student at OHHS.
