“Do you think people should be drinking / consuming dairy products? As for me, I’m not sure. Dairy is something we need, right? It helps strengthen our bones and teeth, and provides us with Calcium, a mineral that helps maintain our bone health, and reduces the risk for certain diseases or infections like Osteoporosis. The art I drew for my Social Justice piece is a group of people deciding on whether or not they should be consuming Dairy (specifically from animals) because of the way milk is being made / processed. I drew one big, farm-like creature in a Barn telling the others that they don’t care what the people do with their product. The mediums I used were ink, by drawing over the sketch, and inking it with Micron pen, and watercolor, by using a watercolor palette and painting over top of it. As for my imagery, I used a Barn and cows because the animals we get our milk from come from Barns all over the country, whether it’d be an all-Cattle farm, or an all-Goat farm. My overall creation for this piece is deciding if someone should really be drinking 3 cups of milk a day. Why not 4 or 5? Why not less than three? Why are we using milk from animal mothers to sustain ourselves? Is it selfish? Or.. something else?”
