watercolor, ink; 20×16″
“We constantly see in movies, TV shows, or read in texts the following words “but I love you”, “please” “don’t you love me?” to drown out a “no”. These are the words I chose to show in my piece. In my piece, the first thing you might notice is the rusty stop sign in the middle. It’s not out, super noticeable, but you can tell it’s there. The second thing to catch your eye will be all the love letters covering the “stop”, most of the signs already covered. Some are older looking, tinted yellow and there’s more underneath than what you first see. My piece, putting the dots together, is about sexual harassment, and how “love” constantly drowns out “no” and “stop”. For more symbolic imagery, I used watercolor. To show a run-down, bleed through effect. I used fine lines to bring out some details in the ‘love’ letters. This subject has an impact on me, because the action represented in this piece has happened to me. It has happened to people I love and will unfortunately continue to happen if people choose to ignore it.”
