“I was inspired by the artist Broobs on Instagram, and wanted to create a similar activist-themed piece for Maya Angelou, one of my family’s favorite poets. I traced the birds on the side directly from the classic cover of ‘I Know Where the Caged Bird Sings’, arguably her most famous book and poem. I added a quote from ‘The Untold Story’, a different work of hers to the top because it really spoke to me.”
Artist Bio: KJ Wright is a 10th grade student at Mariemont High School studying art under art teacher Ashley Scribner.
