“My topic pertains to greed and addiction, especially when it comes to money. I feel that over-consumption and capitalism have become more prominent with the rise of social media. Products and advertisements are everywhere. In my image, I have two hands reaching out towards each other; one is holding money to the other. I wanted one hand to represent the poor and the other the rich, and the impoverished hand giving money to the wealthy one to show class division and unfair wages. On top of the two columns, there is a bag of money with the American flag embedded in it. At the bottom (and tops) of the columns are images of addiction that hold up the columns. I wanted to say that America is rooted in the moneybags that are generated from the misfortune of Americans addicted to drugs, money, and social media. The parallel chains that connect the addictions allude to badness, chains typically having a negative connotation.”ARTIST BIO: Lowry Cavanaugh is a grade 11 student at Summit Country Day HS studying art under art teacher Carrie Barnett.
