acrylic on canvas; 9×12”
“My piece is about how people fake empathy with giving people flowers when really they are just feeling bad for the person. This is a social justice issue because people are not doing things for other people for support or advocacy. What I am trying to convey in my piece is that people need to start supporting each other and helping each other with issues in the world to make it a better and safer place. The heart is representing people and how they are hurting from the thorns of others. The flower represents the sadness people feel for others but the thorns are how people are not feeling with others to help them and bring them up.”ARTIST BIO: Eden Arvay is a grade 11 student at Mount Notre Dame studying art under art teacher Denise Scharf.
