“This work depicts what our thousand note would look like if power belonged to the people. it is a reinterpretation of the Kenyan thousand shilling.”
ARTIST BIO: Naom Agwata is a Kenyan multidisciplinary artist whose work blends realism with social commentary to capture the everyday experiences, struggles, and resilience of ordinary citizens. Growing up in Kebirigo in Nyamira County and later living in Nairobi has shaped much of his perspective, inspiring him to create art that speaks to justice, identity, and the power of community. Through my practice- spanning painting, illustration, and animation- I aim to tell stories that honor the human spirit and provoke meaningful reflection.
