“Internal chaos, the visceral emotions birthed from systemic neglect. GOK does not care for its people.”
ARTIST BIO: Chela Yego, born 1998, is based in Nairobi, Kenya. Her work ranges from collage and sculpture to immersive installations andis grounded in researching and exploring her inner world and her Nandi cultural history and rituals. Her exhibition ‘The Unfurling of My Abject Rage’ in collaboration with Nyakiro, explored personal and collective rage through the physical manipulation of handmade paper. Her series ‘Anatomy of the Swahili Seas I’ draws parallels between the depths of the Swahili seas and the complexities of her emotions. It explores and recontextualizes pre-colonial archived photographs, weaving together cultural history, and the deep, silent architecture of feeling.
