“This sculpture answers with a counter-response: instead of silent suffering, it screams back at systems of oppression, inequality and injustice.”
ARTIST BIO: Njogu Kuria, born in 1992 is an independent, mind bending multimedia artist residing and working in Nairobi, Kenya. His recent powerful textural creations using rubber, among other materials, draw inspiration from the dual nature of Black Essence, of Peace and Wrath. Peaceful side is about stillness, mystery and magic of the night … while Wrathful side is fierce and annihilating in service of the truth. Most recent collection is created out of upcycling rubber tires and inner tubes from discarded car, motorcycle or bicycle tires. Another collection features collage/multimedia artworks created primarily of Broken Vinyl records, paying homage to musical icons and cultures around the world influenced by music. He has experimented further in oil, acrylics, charcoal, and watercolors sketches and paintings, as well as printmaking.
