ARTIST BIO: Diana Opiyo is a Kenyan-based visual artist, part of the Kuona Art Collective. Her works embody the rich cultural heritage and contemporary influences of East Africa and her practice explores the interplay between personal identity, social narratives, and the vibrant art traditions of her homeland. Diana’s art spans a variety of mediums, with a strong focus on painting and mixed media using abstract and figurative forms. Her compositions tell stories of resilience, culture, and transformation and challenge societal norms, presenting a nuanced view of womanhood, community, and the complexities of African identity. Diana’s themes delve into issues such as empowerment, societal change, and the role of women in Africa’s evolving cultural landscape. She has explored topics such as the African diaspora, the connection between personal heritage and modern realities, and the search for identity in a rapidly changing world. Diana has exhibited her work in both local and international platforms. She has participated in several group exhibitions at Kuona Art Collective and other renowned art spaces in Nairobi.
