“The truth is in the eye of the beholder, but when it comes to my body I am ever changing from self-love to scrutiny. I wanted to depict the internal struggle around a sensitive subject such as the body, and as a woman in a gendered body this is an ever present struggle I’m exploring.”
ARTIST BIO: Rheann Wells is in her fourth year at the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP program. As a woman in a gendered body, she is drawn to body horror. She finds comfort in unsettling imagery as it shows the visceral nature of being a woman and soothes the struggle and desire to express that as intensely as it is felt. This ties strongly to Rheann’s mental health and to how she processes life.
