“This piece represents the monstrous transition of emerging girlhood. A horrific and humorous take on the “from caterpillar to butterfly” analogy, she represents both fear and excitement- both trepidation and empowerment. These are the defenses we must develop to fight the patriarchy, paired with the inescapable yearning for the childish innocence we once knew.”
ARTIST BIO: Zoë Lynn is a multi-media artist born and raised in the rural northwest region of Ohio. She received her BFA in Studio Art and Art Therapy from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio as a first generation student. Psychology heavily influences her practice, as she explores themes related to identity, trauma, and nostalgia. Zoë often uses found, secondhand, or trash supplies to create tactile pieces with rich material history. Through representing and reworking specific memories and sensations from her own life, she seeks to offer a deeper understanding of women’s unique and collective experiences.
