“This work is inspired by photos from my family archive that depict my mother and I at the same age, drinking from the same water spigot at my grandmother’s house, 21 years apart. I have always been fascinated with those photos, and how they so perfectly capture the innocent desires of childhood. There is something bizarre about confronting this image that connects us, knowing the hardships we both will later endure as women, as a family, and knowing they are an inevitable part of our shared history. “
ARTIST BIO: Zoë Lynn is a multi-media artist born and raised in the rural northwest region of Ohio. She received her BFA in Studio Art and Art Therapy from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio as a first generation student. Psychology heavily influences her practice, as she explores themes related to identity, trauma, and nostalgia. Zoë often uses found, secondhand, or trash supplies to create tactile pieces with rich material history. Through representing and reworking specific memories and sensations from her own life, she seeks to offer a deeper understanding of women’s unique and collective experiences.
