ceramic earthenware clay, collage, acrylic paint gold leaf;12x9x9”
“I’ve been exploring the idea of collage, in particular upon the surfaces of my ceramic pieces, while including images of my own clay work. I’m portraying the story of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Empire in 1915, and again in 2023 as history repeats itself in Artsakh, the Nagorno-Karabakh ethnic and territorial conflict with Azerbaijan.”
ARTIST BIO: Marsha Karagheusian saw her first potter in the third grade while visiting a historically simulated colonial American village in New England, and at that moment, she found her passion. Like most ceramic artists, she began her journey as a potter, exploring form and space and what may be contained within the confines of a 10,000-year tradition. While her work slowly evolved into handbuilding, she recently has been exploring the medium of collage to tell her story.
