mixed media construction; two pieces, each 36x24x7”
“My 2 construction pieces are in response to Flannery O’Connor’s writings and relate to the general spirit of her stories and to their common message.
‘Peacock Christ’ is in response to her love of birds and in particular peacocks, also to the fact that the peacock has been since Antiquity associated with immortality and renewal and often used as a symbol for Christ and indirectly the Catholic religion. O’Connor was a strong devout Catholic and Christ held a very important part both in her life and in her writings.
‘Saving Grace’ is in reference to the recurrent theme of evil and redemptive grace in her stories. In most of her plots, grace presents itself at some point, espoused or on the contrary refuted by her characters. In the background of both pieces are hand written titles of O’Connor’s short stories.”
