“This piece represents the pressure that society has bestowed women, to uphold a perfect appearance, and fit in the lines that are drawn by men, who deem whatever they find attractive at the time as the standard for everyone. My hands are literally tied in ribbon shackles and intertwined trying to appease the gaze that is on me. If it looks painful to look at, imagine how it feels to live by that standard every day.”

ARTIST BIO: Vivian George is a local up and coming artist in Cincinnati, currently enrolled at UC in DAAP. She has been practicing art seriously for about 6 years and her love for everything involving art has only grown stronger. She usually shows themes of feminism, girlhood, loss of innocence, as well as combating her traumas, and encapsulating it all in her signature style. Her personal aesthetic is very important to her, as she needs to show the inner workings of her personality in her work in order to survive happily.
