“There is an interdependency among all ecosystems necessary for survival. The fragility of these symbiotic relationships and interweavings grows more complex when we consider the unavoidable addition of human-beings as part of these systems. This perspective calls into question, “What is nature?” In the midst of climate crisis, I question our place as humans within nature and how thinking of ourselves as a necessary part can help us navigate the current state of our environment.”

ARTIST BIO: Jillian Campagna is an interdisciplinary artist from Cincinnati, OH. A lifelong passion for biology, nature, and art has led to her integrative approach. Jillian incorporates a research-based studio practice exploring elements of Bio-art with traditional methods, such as printmaking, painting, drawing, and sculpture. A strong component of the work surrounds her inherent attraction to nature. This research explores the necessity of interspecies entanglements as interdependence in the age of the Anthropocene.
