“Since 2020, I have felt as if I am living a Surrealist painting. Turning to Dali, I sought inspiration about a world turned upside-down and distorted beyond my beliefs. I stumbled upon Metamorphosis of Narcissus,1937 and reinterpreted the Greek myth. My dreamscape is New York’s Central Park. The chess king and his knights disintegrate. A young man ponders a map of the world as democracy crumbles. Staring out with hollow eyes, this Narcissus remains framed in his gilded past. The diminished image of a man lies in the swirl of water below as Lady Liberty’s torch rages over the pathos. Redemptions remain elusive.”
