“One of my struggles as a transman was prolonging a doomed relationship out of fear I’d never find someone again. This work focuses on those feelings. It’s not solely a trans experience, but I feel it might be heightened in trans people due to violence and a smaller dating pool. The work depicts a figure slowly withering away in this doomed relationship, signified by the dead tree on his back. Once it was a flourishing tree and now is nothing but a burden he refuses to remove.”
