“(Some) pundits are predicting a bloodless civil war in which people will move to states that increasingly mirror their values. The violence of the last 8 years is a preview of what that would really be like. This faux board game is my response. Spending summers playing Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders etc., our objective was to win – cheating, subterfuge, tantrums, a sudden reversal of fortune all part of it. I never liked it much. The object of this non-competitive game is for players to move from state to state on the throw of the dice, using the draw cards and “save” cards to keep moving towards a fulfillment of the vision expressed in the first lines of the Declaration of Independence.”
ARTIST BIO: Part of my practice is engaging directly with the world – nature, objects, people, art – in which I begin to see a metaphoric resonance with concerns and issues, both personal and political. Sometimes, there is a resonance I sense but do not yet know its meaning or depth – a fleeting image waiting for a story to emerge. While initially trained as a studio potter, as I became more involved in narrative pieces, it was natural to expand my practice to include book arts, fiber,
photography, printmaking, scraps, and rusty bits of metal.
